#16 Severe Weather Safety Bulletin

Severe weather poses significant risks for events, especially those held outdoors. With the increasing threats of lightning, high winds, and poor air quality from wildfire smoke, the notion of events taking place “rain or shine” is not acceptable and dangerous. Given the extreme weather patterns affecting the globe and the rising challenges and costs of insuring events against such conditions, incorporating weather planning into your workplace and event operations and emergency plans is imperative.

This bulletin aims to provide essential information on reasonably foreseeable weather hazards in BC, Canada, and offer guidance on the necessary requirements and best practices for severe weather planning and monitoring. Extreme weather events can be unpredictable, but proactive planning can mitigate their impact, ensuring the safety of attendees and staff.
