OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID INTERMEDIATE
OVERVIEW
This course meets WorkSafeBC requirements for first aid training in the workplace.
WorkSafeBC’s Occupational First Aid Intermediate has replaced the previous course titled Occupational First Aid Level 2 training.
Designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge for managing injuries and medical emergencies in the workplace, this comprehensive training focuses on assessing and stabilizing patients until advanced medical help arrives. Participants will learn how to effectively handle various scenarios, including bleeding control, airway management, fractures, and shock.
It is ideal for individuals seeking to meet workplace safety requirements and enhance their ability to respond confidently in emergency situations. Upon successful completion, participants will be certified as Intermediate First Aid attendants, ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
As of September 1, 2024, Occupational First Aid Intermediate replaced the previous Occupational First Aid Level 2 training program

Learning outcomes
Upon completing the OFA Intermediate course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to assess and treat workplace injuries and medical emergencies, provide immediate and sustained care, and effectively manage emergency situations in compliance with WorkSafeBC occupational first aid regulations.

- Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for adults (CPR Level A)
- Airway breathing circulation (ABC) reassessments
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of a designated first aid attendant
- The WorkSafeBC regulatory requirement for first aid record keeping
- Managing airway emergencies due to fluid
- How to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- How to manage bleeding
- Clearing obstructed airways
- Identifying and managing Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Treating penetrating chest injuries
- Identify and manage common medical emergencies

Certification passing requirements
To receive a certificate, participants must attend the full course, actively participate in the practical sessions, and pass the written exam.
