For over 25 years, Actsafe has been governed by the industries it represents through a 7-person Board of Directors, Society Members (who can vote at the AGM) and two 25-organization Standing Committees; a Motion Picture Standing Committee and a Performing Arts Standing Committee. Memberships include a balance of employer and worker representatives.

Society Memberships

Why become a Society Member of Actsafe?
to receive notice of, and to attend, all General Meetings;

to make or second motions at a General Meeting and to speak in debate on motions under consideration in accordance with such rules of order as may be adopted;

to exercise a vote on matters for determination at General Meetings; and

to participate in the programs and initiatives of the Society, in accordance with such criteria as may be determined by the Board from time to time.
How much does Society Membership cost?
Is my organization eligible for Society Membership?
An organization may be eligible to be accepted as a member if it:

(a) is engaged in:

the performing arts;

live performance venues;

organizing or conducting live performance special events; or

motion picture, television, or commercial production; and

(b) is interested in advancing the purposes and supporting the activities of the Society
What are my responsibilities as a Society Member?
Every Society Member will, at all times:

uphold the Constitution and comply with these Bylaws, the regulations, and the policies of the Society in effect from time to time; and

further and not hinder the purposes, aims and objects of the Society.

How does my organization apply to become a Society Member?

An eligible Organization may apply to the Board in writing to become a Member and on acceptance by the Board will be a Member. The Board may, by Board Resolution, accept, postpone, or refuse an application for membership. An Organization becomes a Member on the date of the Board Resolution or such later date as specified therein.

Standing Committees

Actsafe operates through two standing committees: Performing Arts and Motion Picture.

Why become a Member of Actsafe’s Industry Standing Committees?
The purpose of each Standing Committee is to provide strategic advice and non-binding recommendations to the Board and staff. The Standing Committees offer broad vision and guidance to the Board and staff, give voice to Actsafe’s member needs, and identify priorities for Actsafe programs. The Standing Committees are an important avenue for Actsafe’s outreach, providing significant collective reach to the communities we serve, as well as bringing collective intelligence and intellectual resources to Actsafe.

Each Standing Committee will be comprised of a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25

Standing Committee Members, as may be determined from time to time by the Board.

Actsafe members (individuals and organizations) are invited to join the MPSC or the PASC, as the case may be, by the Board.

Is my organization eligible for Standing Committee Membership?

Actsafe’s Standing Committees are comprised of individuals who are delegates identified by Society Member organizations to sit on a Standing Committee as worker or employer representatives. To ensure that the Board and staff have the benefit of the views of Actsafe’s membership, diverse groups from each sector will be represented including unions, associations, corporations, and industry stakeholders.
What are my responsibilities as a Standing Committee Member?

Standing Committee Members are expected to bring their knowledge and perspective to each MPSC or PASC meeting. At each meeting, Standing Committee Members review information, discuss issues, and provide advice and recommendations within their areas of expertise.
