OVERVIEW
The Motion Picture Safety Awareness course is designed specifically for the motion picture and television industry and is a mandatory requirement for most union membership as of March 2024. This course is a fun and interactive way to learn about the different safety hazards that exist within the industry. Whether you are refreshing your knowledge or just starting out in the industry, this course is great for veterans and beginners alike.
This course is a requirement to become a permittee with:
- The Directors Guild of Canada BC (DGC BC)
- International Cinematographers Guild – Local 669 (ICG 669)
- The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 891 (IATSE 891)
- Teamsters Local 155

Learning outcomes
A requirement for admission into the majority of B.C.’s motion picture production unions, Motion Picture Safety Awareness is an interactive video-game style course that provides new and young workers with the key safety knowledge they need to start their careers in British Columbia’s motion picture and television production industry.
In this course, users will play the role of a worker on a feature film as they learn about rights and responsibilities, hazard identification and controls, and work practices unique to worksites in motion picture and television production. While this course is designed for new and young workers entering the motion picture industry, seasoned veterans can also use this course as a refresher to enhance their skills in making sure worksites are safe not only for themselves, but for their fellow workers.
