Dr. Roslyn Kunin, Vice Chair
Dr. Roslyn Kunin is one of those rare economists who can make the often difficult subject of economics understandable and even interesting.
She was educated in Quebec and Ontario, finishing her studies with a Ph.D. in economics from the University of British Columbia. The University of Victoria has granted her the degree of Honorary Doctor of Laws. The Institute of Corporate Directors has granted her the ICD.D designation.
She has been awarded the Crystal Ball Award by the Association of Professional Economists, the Woman of Distinction Award by the YWCA and a Canada 125 medal for service to Canada and is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.
Dr. Kunin was a director of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and is now on the council of Applied Sciences Technicians and Technologists of BC. She was Chair of the Haida Enterprise Corporation and has served the community in many positions including Chair of WorkSafe BC, Chair of the Vancouver Stock Exchange, Director of the Business Development Bank of Canada, Director of the Canada West Foundation, Governor of the University of British Columbia, Chair of the Vancouver Crisis Centre, member of the National Statistics Council and Vice-President of the YWCA. She has published numerous articles and books.
In her career, Dr. Kunin has worked in the private sector, written a weekly newspaper column, taught at several Canadian universities including Simon Fraser and UBC. She served twenty years as Regional Economist for the federal government in B.C. and Yukonand ten years as the Executive Director of the Laurier Institution. She is in private practice as a consulting economist.
Chair
John Beckett, Vice Chair
John Beckett brings to the Actsafe Board a wealth of experience in leading teams to success primarily in OHS, training, human resources, and labour relations. He is an adept project manager and a seasoned speaker and facilitator covering a broad range of topics such as culture, leadership, safety, addiction, and teamwork. His background includes service in the military, working in the construction, manufacturing and public sector, roles as a union leader, and managerial positions across public, private, and non-profit organizations.
John holds an MBA in Human Resources and multiple certifications including Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), former Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR), and former Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D). His extensive governance and board experience encompasses former roles such as the Director of the National Maritime Safety Association, Chair of WorkSafeBC’s Board, Governor of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, and Employer Representative at the International Labour Organization (ILO). He currently is the Board Chair for ICHCA, a safety based NGO at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) based out of London England and will soon move to Past Chair of the WCB Employers Forum.
Vice Chair
Michael Van Dijk, Treasurer
Michael manages the accounting function at PwC Global Licensing Services Corporation (GLSC), an entity responsible for executing and administering global licensing and IT services contracts on behalf of member firms across 155 countries.
He moved to Vancouver 16 years ago and for the bulk of those years oversaw the financial operation at the Automotive Retailers Association group of companies as the Director of Finance and Operations. Prior to the move he worked in Amsterdam, serving as Finance Director at CBS Television International, a global producer and distributor of syndicated television product, and as Financial Manager at Paramount Pictures International, a film and entertainment content company.
He received a Bachelors of Laws (LLB) degree in 1995 and a Bachelors of Commerce (BCom) degree in Financial Management in 2001 from the University of Pretoria. He is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
Treasurer
Rob Larson, Motion Picture Worker Representative
Rob Larson works as the Business Agent for the DGC BC and is responsible for the management and administration of the Collective Agreement. He is the chief negotiator of the DGC BC contract. Rob also participates in marketing endeavours through MPPIA to promote BC as a production destination. Rob actively runs the Reel Thanksgiving Challenge in support of the Greater Vancouver Foodbank. He has various Board positions for the Leo Awards, Whistler Film Festival and now sits as the Motion Picture Worker Representative on the Actsafe Board.

Dave Wilson, Performing Arts Worker Representative
Dave has been an Actsafe Performing Arts Standing Committee member since early 2018 and a Board member since 2019. He is a member of IATSE Local 118 (Vancouver, stage) and its Safety Committee and has served on the Local’s Executive Board as a Member-at-Large. His background also includes many years in association management, communications, and educational services through both employment and service with local, provincial, national, and international organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in human resources management and is a Certified Association Executive – a professional designation awarded by the Canadian Society of Association Executives.

Paul McManus, Performing Arts Employer Representative
Paul is currently the Senior Manager, Production for the Vancouver Civic Theatres (Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Orpheum, Playhouse Theatre and The Annex) and has sat on the VCT OH&S Board since 2021. He has been a member of the Performing Arts Standing Committee since 2022 and gladly joined the Board of Directors of Actsafe in 2023.
Paul graduated from The University of Victoria’s Theatre program in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has been working in the performing arts ever since. Paul moved to Vancouver in 1993 and has travelled the world with various musical groups as a monitor engineer, FOH engineer, Production Manager, Tour Manager or Promoter Rep. In 2015, he decided to put his suitcase away and join the Vancouver Civic Theatres as the Head Stage Carpenter at The Orpheum Theatre. In 2021 he moved to his current position.
