ACTSAFE INJURY PREVENTION 2021
RESPECTFUL WORKPLACES
What is a respectful workplace? How can we work together to ensure that everyone who works on a production is treated fairly?
Throughout AIP Week, we will be bringing awareness to the challenges that workplaces have in creating a respectful workplace and working together to ensure diversity, inclusion, and respect are achieved in the arts and entertainment industries.
This year’s AIP Week will include webinars, resources, and activities. Plus, our Safety Café will be back on the road visiting productions for coffee, cookies, and conversation!
Safety Café
The Actsafe Safety Café will be hitting the road throughout AIP Week. Come join us at one of the following locations to network, engage, and enjoy some complimentary coffee while discussing respectful workplaces.

CONNECTION BETWEEN INCLUSIVE AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY
WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN INCLUSIVE AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY SAFE WORKPLACES AND RESPECTFUL WORKPLACES?
– WITH ALDEN E. HABACON
Is it possible to be fully respected and still not feel included?
More specifically, is it possible to have a “respectful workplace” that is still unsafe psychologically for racialized and Indigenous People? This engaging conversation will address these salient questions, and examine the interconnections between workplace efforts towards inclusivity, psychological health and safety and respect. Strategist and facilitator, Alden E. Habacon, will share a technical understanding of when people actually feel included and explore how workplaces in BC are addressing discrimination as a health and safety issue.
RESPECTFUL WORKPLACES IN THE ARTS
RESPECTFUL WORKPLACES IN THE ARTS WITH GRÉGOIRE GAGNON, CULTURAL HUMAN RESOURCES COUNCIL
Canadian Heritage and AIP Week Knowledge Partner CHRC are offering this free Respectful Workplaces in the Arts workshop to encourage better workplace practices and behaviours. The workshop covers information on Provincial legislation, definitions of harassment and bullying as well as case studies to navigate the complexities of problematic situations. These workshops are not legal nor therapy clinics, they are conversations facilitated by experienced cultural sector leaders. Resources are discussed to help individuals and organizations towards contributing to better work environments and/or to develop their own policies/codes of conduct.
UNDERSTANDING CONFLICT IN THE WORKPLACE
UNDERSTANDING CONFLICT IN THE WORKPLACE
PRESENTED BY WORK WELLNESS INSTITUTE
Brought to you for free by our AIP Week knowledge partner, Work Wellness Institute, Understanding Conflict in the Workplace will focus on understanding conflict and its impacts in the workplace while exploring individual actions and behaviours for responding to conflict. This course is not about solving conflict, but rather, highlights the need to understand the source and underlying factors of conflict thoroughly before engaging in resolution activities. Attempting to solve a problem before understanding the cause of conflict poses risks, including acting too quickly, resulting in ineffective or temporary resolution.
